Abuja - The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abubakar Mohammed has assured that security agencies in the country were working together towards ensuring the safety and security of students and academic institutions across the country.
“Following the concern and directive of President Goodluck Jonathan all the security agencies, are doing everything humanly possible to ensure that no child, student and their teachers are attacked again anywhere in the country,” the IGP was quoted as saying.
The IGP requested for the observance of a one minute silence in honour of the students who were recently murdered in Yobe State by criminal elements.
He said both overt and covert deployment of operatives into schools was being increased while the security agencies were also working with local communities to improve security in and around schools.
He also emphasised that education was the only worthwhile legacy any parent or guardian could bequeath to a child or ward.
The police leader noted with pride the giant efforts his administration is making towards ensuring that the force was manned by the best hands and called on the students to consider the Nigeria Police as a viable career option.
