Police in Anambra appeal for information to stamp out crime

03 June 2014, 06:34

Awka - The police in Anambra on Monday appealed to members of the public to provide them with information to stamp out crime in the state.

Emeka Chukwuemeka, the spokesman of the state police command, made the appeal while parading a South Africa-bound kidnap suspect.

Chukwuemeka said the alleged kidnapper was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while boarding a flight to South Africa.

He also displayed arms and ammunition recovered from the suspects.

The suspect, on his part, told the media that he had been in the kidnapping business for many years.
The suspect claimed that he had lost count of the number of persons he kidnapped in the past.

He added that he decided to quit kidnapping when his relations residing in South Africa invited him.

He noted that he thought he had covered his tracks, only to be arrested at the point of departure.

The media reports that 13 other suspects were also paraded for various offences.

Three of them were alleged to have raped a pregnant woman.
