Police investigates attack on commissioners convoy in Ebonyi

11 September 2012, 09:34

Ebonyi - The police in Ebonyi on Monday said the command had started investigations into the gunmen attack on the convoy of some commissioners in the state in which one of their aides died

Mr Sylvester Igbo, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, told newsmen in Abakaliki that the police would find out whether the suspected attackers were either armed robbers or assassins.

Igbo said the convoy comprised, Chief Celestine Nwali, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Donatus Aja, the Commissioner for Peace, Border Security and Conflict Resolution, and Mr Collins Agbo, a Special Adviser to Gov. Martin Elechi on Internal Security.

He also said that Mr Pascal Ugadu, one of the aides to Agbo, was killed by the gunmen, while one of the four gunmen, who operated on motorcycles, was shot dead by the police.

The police spokesman said that two motorcycles, one AK-47 riffle, one shot gun and assorted ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

Igbo, however, did not confirm whether the police made any arrest.

He said the attack occurred at about 10 a.m. at a Petrol Station on Abakaliki-Afikpo Road at the popular Spera-in-Deo Junction, where they stopped to re-fuel their vehicles.
