Police kill 2 suspected armed robbers in Delta

03 October 2012, 17:04

Delta - The police in Delta said on Wednesday that they shot dead two suspected armed robbers at Ozoro in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

The Command's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Charles Muka, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba that the robbers were killed during an exchange of fire with the police at Divine Hostel in Ozoro.

Divine Hostel is privately owned and occupied by students of the Ozoro Polytechnic.

He said that two locally-made cut-to-size guns were recovered from them after the gun battle.

Muka said that two children and a man had also been rescued unhurt by the police from alleged kidnappers on Sept. 27 at Effurun.

Muka said that the children were kidnapped on their way from school.

``On information, the victims were traced to the buyers of the children who were later arrested and the victims were rescued unhurt.

``The suspects had already sold the victims to a woman in Bayelsa.

``The six suspects, who kidnapped one of the children on Sept. 21, were also arrested by the anti-kidnap unit in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

``The victims were rescued without paying ransom; the suspects had earlier demanded for N7 million,'' he said.
