Police kill suspected armed robber in Kano

Kano - The police in Kano State said on Thursday that they killed an armed robbery suspect  in Gezawa Local Government Area of the state in a gun battle.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the state command, ASP Mustapha Abubakar, in Kano, said the suspect was killed by a team of policemen on patrol on Jogana-Tsamiya Babba road.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, when a gang of armed robbers snatched a KIA Sportage Jeep, 2009 model, from one Aminu Yusuf at gun point.

‘’The car with registration number BQ 181 KMC, belongs to one Aminu Yusuf of Auyo, in Jigawa and was snatched on Jogana-Tsamiya Babba road in Gezawa.''

‘’ The hoodlums were pursued by policemen on patrol from Gezawa Police Divisional Headquarters and were intercepted at Ring Road by another team of policemen on patrol,’’ the statement said.

 It said the hoodlums opened fire on the policemen which led to exchange of fire.

‘’The policemen retaliated and shot dead one of the robbers who was driving the stolen vehicle, while the other suspects escaped in the bush.’’

According to the statement, items recovered from them included three live ammunitions of AK 47 riffle and some quantities of hard drugs.

The statement urged members of the public to use the command’s 24-hour emergency telephone lines to report any emergency in their areas.
