Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest 2 suspects

07 February 2013, 07:31 -

Owerri - The police in Imo have rescued one Mrs Nkechi Linus from kidnappers in Owerri.

The victim, who was abducted in Iguruita, Rivers, was rescued when her abductors ran into a check-point at Ihiagwa.

The suspected kidnappers, who intended to take the victim to their hideout in Owerri, panicked and sped off when they were flagged down by the police.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr Vitalis Onugu, the officers became suspicious when the suspects pretended to have stopped before they sped off.

Two of them were apprehended as they tried to escape on foot, while two others escaped.

Addressing newsmen at the police headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Adisa Bolanta, said the suspects would be arraigned soon.
