The Spokesman of the Command, Mr Ben Ugwuegbulam, said this in Port Harcourt on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Ugwuegbulam said the gang abducted one Felix, a retired staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and took him to an unknown destination.

He said the victim was kidnapped on Wednesday while driving into his residence in Rumudara area of Port Harcourt.

Ugwuegbulam said the police swift operations squad and anti-kidnap unit among others, swung into action to rescue Felix.

He said that the gang drove towards Aluu Road, Port Harcourt, as the police pursued them.

The spokesman added that one of the suspects was killed in the shootout, while other gang members fled towards the ex-militants training camp in Aluu, Port Harcourt, and abandoned their victim.

He said the victim was rescued in good health, while the gang’s operational Passat saloon car was recovered.

Ugwuegbulam said the police had intensified investigations and search to arrest the fleeing suspects.
