Abuja - Unidentified internet fraudsters have created a fake online account using the name of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
Members of the public have been made aware of the act through a public notice released by the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
“Some individuals and groups of persons have started creating #FACEBOOK profiles and pages in the name of Acting IGP Solomon Arase," a police spokesperson said.
It is believed pictures posted on these fake profiles and pages are discovered to have been taken from posts on the Nigeria Police Official Facebook page.

Police advised members of the public against any interaction with of such fake account claiming to be that of the Acting Inspector-General of Police.
“Members of the public, especially the Facebook community, are advised not to have any interaction with any of such fake profile and page claiming to be that of the Inspector-General of Police,” the notice added.
The Force Headquarters said the Nigeria Police Official Facebook page would remain the platform for the Inspector-General of Police to interact with citizens on facebook.
It also stated that appropriate reports have been made to facebook, in addition necessary actions to track down those behind such fake profiles and pages.
