Lagos – A 24-year-old police constable, Gaius Asogwa, was remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons over the alleged murder of a motorcyclist.
The Chief Magistrate, S.O Solebo, ordered that the accused be detained in custody pending legal advice from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
Asogwa, who has not pleaded yet, is facing a charge of murder.
The prosecutor, Insp. Richard Odigie, told the court that the offence was committed on June 27 in Lagos.
He said that a police patrol team had arrested the deceased, Sunday Okoli, for allegedly contravening the state traffic law by riding his motorcycle on a restricted highway.
Odigie said that on the way to the police station, an altercation broke out between the deceased and the accused, who were both sitting at back of the police patrol van.
"Irked by an insult, the accused allegedly pushed the arrested motorcyclist out of the moving vehicle," he said.
Solebo adjourned the case till June 10.
