Polio: Jigawa LG immunises 76,105 children

08 August 2015, 08:52

Kiyawa - The Kiyawa Local Government Council of Jigawa on Friday said it had immunised 76 105 children against polio in the last round of immunisation exercise.

The Manager, National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) in the area, Alhaji Hussaini Alhassan, told the media in Kiyawa that the exercise was conducted between July 26 and July 29 across the 27 local government areas of the state.

According to the manager, the state government supplied 86,000 doses of Oral Polio Vaccines for the conduct of the exercise, whose success drew accolades from the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Nasiru Ahmad.

According to Alhassan, the Head of Department of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in the area, Malam Gambo Musa, has also supported the council by providing 140 cartons of sweets used to entice children to participate in the exercise.

The NPI manager also appreciated the level of commitment shown by the district heads of Kiyawa and Shuwarin towards the successful conduct of the exercise, and described that gesture as "exemplary."

The media recalls that more than 78,468 children were immunised in the previous round of the exercise conducted in early July.
