President Jonathan welcomes new US Ambassador

27 November 2013, 10:41Augustine Osayande

Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan has urged James Entwistle, the new United States Ambassador to Nigeria, to help strengthen the cordial relationship that exists between the two countries.

Entwistle presented his letters of credence to President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.

This follows his swearing in as ambassador on October 28.

Responding to Jonathan’s call, Entwistle said during his tenure, he would ensure his government support of Jonathan’s efforts to broaden areas of bilateral collaboration between Nigeria and United States.

The United States is Nigeria’s biggest trading partner and is seen as undeniably its most diplomatic partner.

Entwistle has previously worked in the continent.

From 2010-13, he served as the Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has previously been deployed in Cameroon and Kenya.

He has also served ambassadorial stints in such countries as Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Malaysia among others.
