Pressure groups condemn attempt on Otti's life

27 July 2015, 17:28

Abia - A coalition from Abia State and the Southeast has condemned the assassination attempt on the life of Dr Alex Otti, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the last governorship election in the Abia State.

The coalition also condemned the recent media publication by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-controlled government in the state.

Under the auspices of the Coalition of Abia and Southeast Pressure Groups, the organisation “wondered why the Government is crying more than the bereaved by holding a press conference on this incident exonerating itself and citing the source of the Attack, while the security Agencies are still investigating to find out the source or sponsors of the attack.”

Addressing a World Press Conference in Abuja on Monday, the spokespersons of the Groups, Kelechi Nkworie and Slyvanus Nnadozie, condemned the action describing it as a calculated attempt by “highly placed persons” in the state to remove the life of Otti, “knowing fully well what will be the outcome of the Election tribunal going on in the State.”

APGA is contesting the election of PDP’s Okezie Ikpeazu, who was declared the winner of the poll held in April.

Last Friday, it was reported that gunmen attacked Otti’s guest house at Maitama, Abuja, and shot a policeman on duty to death.

Among the concerned groups include Abia Renewal front, Abia Mandate, Abia Consultative Forum, Abia League of Professionals, Southeast Development Agenda, Easter Mandate Group, Save Abia Now, Abia Youth Congress and Reclaim Abia Agenda.
