Kano - Users of cooking gas in Kano have decried the increase in the price of the product. A cross-section of the users, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Friday, urged the regulatory authorities to check the skyrocketing and irregular price of the product.
Muhammad Sani, one of the users of the product, told NAN that cooking gas was more user-friendly than other cooking fuels.
NAN reports that the price of cooking gas has increased by N100, N200 and N300 depending on the size of the cylinders, which range from 5, 10, to 12 kilogrammes.
Sani said that the irregular price of the product was stressful as public servants needed to save to be able to buy the product on a monthly basis.
“The frequent increases in the price of cooking gas is really worrisome because we save money to buy it.
“Imagine going to the depot with N3, 000 only to be told that the price has been increased to N3, 300.” Another end user of the product, Abdulkadir Baba, said the jump in the price of the “essential commodity” was “disturbing.”
“It is very disturbing to see the sudden increase in the price of the product, which is very essential to us. “To me, it is easier to use than other fuels such as charcoal and kerosene.
We call on the regulatory bodies to keep track of the price of the product for the benefit of users.”
Speaking with NAN in a separate interview, a dealer in cooking gas at Na’ibawa quarters in Kano, Sani Abdullahi, said that the price increase was a result of the hike in the price at the depots.
Abdullahi said that dealers were only responding to market forces of demand and supply. He said that the price was increased in November and that no reason was given for the increase.
Abdullahi said since the increase was made, end user had been complaining.
