Prisons accountant in custody for fraud

Lagos - The trial against a Prison Assistant accused of defrauding customers of a new generation bank to the tune of more than N132 million will resume at the Federal High Court in Enugu on Wednesday next week.

Onoja Osita Kingsley, who is an officer with the Nigeria Prison Service, has initially appeared before Justice Agishir on a three-counts charge bordering on theft, possession of fraudulent documents and forgery.

He allegedly orchestrated the fraudulent transfer of the said amount of money from accounts of from six customers.

He was arrested in January in Enugu where he had gone to withdraw some of the alleged stolen money.

Kingsley is pleading not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Justice Agishir has adjourned the matter to next week for hearing of bail application and remanded the accused in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
