Public holiday to commemorate slain Yobe students

Yobe - Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, has declared Friday a public holiday to enable the state offer special prayers for the repose of the lives of students recently killed in suicide bomb attack.

The governor also asked that the holiday be used to pray for the quick recovery of scores of students injured in the attack at the Potiskum Science School as well as for the restoration of peace in the state and the country in general.

The governor made this declaration at the conferment of Merit and Productivity Award and the Title of 'Garkuwan Matasa'  (Shield of Yobe Youth) on him on Thursday in Damaturu.

Dozens of children were recently killed and many more injured after a suicide bomber suspected to be a member of Boko Haram group detonated bomb in Government Science Technical School Potiskum .

The attack, which left 48 students dead, occurred when students lined up for a Monday morning assembly.
