Jos - A rainstorm on Thursday night rendered more than 400 families in three villages of Langtang South Local Government Area in Plateau homeless.
The incident, which began in the evening, also destroyed property worth millions of Naira.
The affected villages are Kanana, Mile IV and Gangyu.
Some of the victims took refuge in churches and classrooms as well as in the homes of relations and friends.
The Chairman of the council, Bendul Danfa, who visited the villages, urged the state and national emergency management agencies, corporate and international bodies to assist the victims.
"This council alone cannot address the enormous challenges before it. That is why we are calling for assistance from donor agencies and individuals.
“Beside the affected families, three primary schools and examination hall are badly affected,'' he said.
Danfa said although no life was lost in the incident, the disaster was "enormous and frightening".
He said that the council would assist the victims with relief materials, adding that "the council would appreciate assistance from any quarters for the victims.’’
