Abuja - Police in Benue State have gunned down three suspects who allegedly robbed and raped their victims.
Some items recovered from gang include three assorted locally made guns and four live ammunition, two axes, three live cartridges and one expended cartridge.
Briefing journalists in Makurdi, the State Commissioner of Police, Adams Audu said, “At about 1am (Wednesday), the police was alerted that robbers numbering about five had invaded the home of their victim (names withheld) at Mbakihir village in Buruku local government area.
The robbers who were said to be robbing the occupants of the said house also went as far as raping the helpless female children of their victims.
Acting on the information, our men on patrol within the area immediately swung into action, got to the scene and were greeted by gunfire from the armed suspects,” he said.
He added, “The exchange of gunfire led to three of the suspects sustaining bullet wounds and were arrested but while being conveyed to a nearby hospital the three of them died before they could be availed medical attention. Two members of the gang escaped arrest with bullet wounds, but we are on their trail and I believe strongly that they would soon be arrested.”
The commissioner solicited the cooperation of members of the public in giving the police information that would lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
He also cautioned those involved in all forms of criminal activities in the state to desist or be prepared to face the wrath of the law assuring that the police in Benue would not relent in its quest to rid the state of all criminal elements.
