Birnin Kebbi - The Nigerian Red Cross Society has embarked on sensitisation of residents on proactive measures to prevent meningitis in high risk areas in Kebbi state.
The state Chairman of the society, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday that the campaign was part of the activities to mark the 2015 World Red Cross Day.
The theme of this year’s Day is: "Our principles in action".

Sadiq said volunteers of the group had been mobilised for the campaign in Gwandu, Jega and Birnin Kebbi local government areas.
According to him, with adequate campaign, the spread of meningitis will be curtailed.
He said the group had embarked on social mobilisation on national immunisation days.
"We participate and support rural community training on proper disaster management.
"The Red Cross would intensify voluntary services to the public aimed at alleviating suffering of the people, protect life and health.
"The organisation is determined to promote mutual understanding, first aid services and youth development through sports," Sadiq said.
