Rights groups slams alleged harassment of Dasuki

17 July 2015, 11:45Okoro Chinedu

Lagos - The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has condemned the reported harassment of the immediate past National Security Adviser, Rtd Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

On Thursday, the Presidency allegedly ordered truck loads of men of the Department of State Service (DSS) to invade the home of Dasuki, reportedly under the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari.

HURIWA slammed the move and the alleged involvement of Buhari.

“The Nigerian Constitution recognises accused persons facing normal prosecution as innocent in the eye of the law until otherwise ruled by the competent court of law,” HURIWA National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Media Affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf, stated.

“President Buhari as a good democrat that he told us he has become must come to terms with global best democratic practices and let the law take its normal course without resorting to self help or gestapo type military arrests of political opponents.”

Dasuki is among a number of service chiefs whose tenure Buhari terminated last week.
