Abuja - Nigeria has banned all forms of demonstration in the River State as a measure to maintain law and order in the area.
The ban, which also outlaws peaceful protests, is with immediate effect.
The Commissioner of Police in the River state, Joseph Mbu, warned that the police would arrest and prosecute any person involved in protest without approval from the police.
“Effective immediately, anyone involved in peaceful or violent procession without application to the Commissioner of Police will be arrested and prosecuted.
"Police will make sure defaulters are brought to book," Mbu said.
The ban on protests follow recent killings of members of the public by Boko Haram.
