Road safety corps recognised as best government agency

Abuja - The Federal Road Safety Corps has emerged the winner of the Best Government Agency 2014 E-Governance Award, organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

According to a statement by Stella Uchegbu, Corps Commander Corps Public Education Officer, the award presentation was the highpoint of a three day programme on E-Nigeria with the theme, “Creating Market Opportunities for Indigenous ICT Products and Services”,  under the auspices of the NITDA, the prime agency for E-government implementation, internet governance and general  IT in Nigeria.

Receiving the award on behalf of the FRSC management, the Assistant Corps Marshal, Policy, Research and Statistics, Kayode Olagunju, expressed the appreciation of the FRSC management and staff over the recognition and dedicated it to the immediate past Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, Osita Chidoka, and the over 500 ICT staff of the FRSC whose efforts had added value to the Corps’ resolve to metamorphose into a world class agency.

Director-General  and Chief Executive Officer of NITDA, Peter Jack, described the award as deliberate but sustained efforts by the NITDA to identify and recognize significant achievements in the area of E-Governance, disseminate knowledge on effective methods of designing and implementing sustainable E-Governance initiatives, encourage incremental innovations in successful E-Governance solutions and promote and exchange experiences in solving problems, mitigating risks, resolving issues and planning for success.

Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Amina Sambo who represented the First Lady of the Federal Republic, Patience Jonathan, commended the organizers of the award and expressed her desire to continue to promote the ideals of child on-line protection initiative with the aim of eradicating common social vices resulting from the exposure of the Nigerian child to ICT application and other web-related activities.

The First Lady also received a special jury award for her unparallel contributions towards the interest of women and children.

The awards were held in partnership with NIHILENT, a global consulting and solutions integration company using holistic and system approach to problem solving.
