Salesman docked for misappropriating N1.5m

09 October 2013, 17:33

Abuja - The police on Wednesday arraigned a Salesman, Javershima Zaka, 34, in a Grade 2 Area Court, Kado, Abuja for misappropriating over N1.5 million, belonging to his employer.

Zaka was arraigned on a one-count charge of criminal misappropriation. The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Simeon Ibrahim, told the court that one Ekunseitan Bukola of Jocdona Investments Ltd., lodged the report at the Utako Police Station on Oct. 2.

Ibrahim said  that the accused was employed as a sales man in June and entrusted with the company’s products to sell and remit money to company’s account but that Zaka instead, converted the money to his personal use.

He alleged that during police investigations, N150,000 being part of the said money was recovered from the accused.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of section 309 of the Penal Code.

Zaka pleaded not guilty.

If convicted, he is liable to two years in prison or with an option of fine or with both.

The Presiding Officer, Ahmed Ado, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with a reliable and responsible surety on grade level 10.

Ado adjourned the case to Dec. 18 for further hearing.
