Scribes to honour consumer rights advocates

25 February 2014, 13:46

Lagos - The Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN) will next month honour individuals who have contributed immensely to consumer empowerment in the country over the past year.

This is part of activities to commemorate the annual World Consumers Day.

The individuals will be rewarded on March 15 in an event themed, “The Nigerian Corporate World and Hapless Consumers,” at Adna Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

BJAN Chairman, Goodie Efose, said the event was conceived to honor distinguished industry practitioners whose activities and expertise stood out in 2013.

“The theme could not have come at a better time than when the Consumer Protection Council and other industry regulators are wielding the big stick against fraudulent practices. As journalists our role is to educate, inform and entertain. It also includes agenda setting. We are using this forum to reawaken stakeholders in the industry that they have a duty to protect consumers,” Efose said.

He appealed to all stakeholders to support the noble initiative as it would go a long way to encourage practitioners to do more for the consumers. – CAJ News Kola Oyeyemi, Chief Executive Officer of Media Perspectives, will deliver the keynote address while Sola Salako, CEO Purples Consult/President Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CAFON), Yomi Badejo Okusanya, CEO of CMC Connect and David Okeme, the Marketing Director of Unilever, are among participants expected at the event.

Some of the distinguished industry personalities that would be honored at the event include Lolu Akinwunmi(Regulator), Kola Oyeyemi (Corporate), Ehi Braimah (Experiential), Akonte Ekine (PR), Dozie Mbanefo(Out of Home Advertising), Deji Elumoye (Media), Ayo Kupoluyi (Media Planning and Buying), Felix Eiremiokhae (Nescafe hot air balloon activation), Ken Egbas (CSR/sustainability campaign) and Bunmi Oke (Advertising).
