Abuja - The Senate has donated N20 million to cater for the needs of internally displaced people.
Senate President Senator David Mark announced the donation at the plenary.
This follows request by Senator Eta Enang that all senators make a personal compulsory donation to these disadvantaged members of the community
Enang also called for a special budgetary allocation for to internally displaced persons in the 2015 budget.
Senator Andy Uba supported Enang and urged the Senate to shows example by donating cash to assists to internally displaced persons.
In his contribution, Senator Ahmed Lawal thanked Enang for the suggestion.
“Internally displaced persons are everywhere and advise that their plight should be taken seriously,” said Lawal.
The Boko Haram terror and communal clashes have killed thousands of locals and displaced scores more around the country.
