Seven robbery suspects arrested in Kebbi

10 September 2013, 16:15

Birnin Kebbi  - Umar Bala, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Kebbi, has single handedly arrested seven robbery suspects at their hideout in Zauro, a suburb of Birnin Kebbi.

Sanusi Geza, the leader of the group told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi that the suspects were planning an operation when they were nabbed a week ago.

He said Bala overheard the suspects planning an attack and arguing over the sharing of booty from a recent robbery in Birnin Kebbi.

The vigilante leader said the group would reward the "gallant member for his bravery''.

"The criminals were arrested by the singular effort of one Umar Bala, who would be elevated to the rank of an Assistant Inspector,” he said.

According to Geza, the seven suspects were also involved in a recent robbery at Shukura Supermarket, Gwadangaji, where the security guard, one Shekare Gwadangaji, was stabbed to death.

He said textile materials worth over N500 000 were carted away from the supermarket.

Geza said the suspects had been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

NAN reports that residents of Birnin Kebbi have been subjected to series of armed robbery attacks for over two months, during which people lost their lives and valuables.
