15 January 2014, 11:45

Maiduguri - Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno on Tuesday condemned the suicide bomb attack at the Post Office area of Maiduguri and directed security agents to investigate it.

The condemnation is contained in a statement issued in Maiduguri and signed by Isa Gusau, the Special Adviser on Communication to the Governor.

"Governor Kashim Shettima has condemned the explosion in Maiduguri. The explosion came at a time the return of peace is being celebrated by residents of Maiduguri.

"The governor expressed his deep condolences to the families of those affected and prayed for the repose of the soul of those who died.

"Shettima directed security agencies to carry out full investigation on the explosion which has resulted in youths’ rampage that led to near break down of law and order."

The statement added that the governor also directed the state’s Ministry of Health to ensure proper medical attention was given to all the victims free of charge.

It quoted the governor as describing the bombing as inhuman.

Seventeen persons were reported to have died in the suicide bombing.
