Six kidnap suspects arrested in Imo

Owerri - The Police Command in Imo said on Wednesday that it had arrested six kidnap and three murder suspects who had been terrorising the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Katsina, said this in Owerri while briefing newsmen on the feat recorded by of the command in January.

According to Katsina, two persons were arrested for kidnapping a 65-year-old woman in Amangwu, Nkwerre Local Government area.

He said that four other suspects were arrested in connection with the kidnap of two children and the murder of one Madukalu Okechukwu in Okponkume, Ekwereazu in Ahiazu Mbaise Local government area.

"Madukalu had gone to visit the mother of the children, when he recognised one of them while the children were rescued at Umuezeugwu in Ihite Uboma local government area."

Three other suspects, he said, were arrested for the murder of one Brendan Ogunya, who was shot in his house before his body was dumped in a bush beside his residence in Ogada, Attah Ikeduru.

The command also arrested one Sylvia Kelechi for allegedly faking her own kidnap and collecting ransom from her family members, the commissioner.

He said the N1.3 million was found in her account after her arrest.

When interviewed, the kidnap suspects said they were paid N250 000 to abduct the children.
