Sokoto - Sokoto State First Lady, Hajiya Mariya, has pledged to pay the medical bills of a teenager who sustained injuries after the teenage girl’s cousin poured boiling water on her.
The 12-year-old Zalihat Mahmud was severely burnt.
The governor’s wife who visited the youngster at the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, where she has been on admission, described Habiba Ladan’s alleged offence as “cruel”.

Accompanied by the State Commissioners of Health and Women Affairs, Mariya commended the National Agency for the Prohibition of trafficking in Person and other Related Matters (NAPTIP) for their efforts in addressing child abuse in the state.
Mariya assured the agency of government’s sustained support, while urging it to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that the culprit was brought to book.
The agency has arrested Lada following the alleged assault. She denied wrongdoing.
