Sokoto assembly gets new speaker

Sokoto - The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Tuesday elected Aliyu Abubakar and Bello Goronyo as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.

The development followed the resignation of the former Speaker, Lawal Zayyana.

Zayyanna resigned after he was appointed Sarkin Gobir of Gwadabawa.

The new speaker, who was nominated by Sani Yakubu (APC-Gudu), is a member representing Tureta Constituency and former Deputy Speaker of the legislature.

The Deputy Speaker, nominated by Abubakar Bunkari (APC-Binji), is a member representing Goronyo Constituency and also former Deputy Leader of the House.

After the election, Abubakar assured his colleagues that he would work with all for better Sokoto State.

Abubakar thanked the members for electing him and called for their support in piloting the House.

The deputy speaker, in his remark, described the elections as the will of God and a great opportunity to contribute more for the development of the state.

The House also received a letter from the All Progressives Congress (APC), nominating Ibrahim Almustapha (APC-Rabah), as Deputy Leader of the House.
