Sokoto donates N2m to orphans

Sokoto - The Chairman, Sokoto Zakat Endowment Committee, Lawal Maidoki, on Monday said that the state government donated two million naira to some orphans and needy persons.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 66 orphans and 80 needy people, benefitted from the gesture.

Maidoki said that each orphan received N15 000 while the needy people got N10 000 each.

The chairman was represented Umar Hamma'ali, the Secretary of the committee and Director of Zakkat, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

"The gesture is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the beneficiaries, especially during the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir on October 15,’’ Maidoki said.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously to improve their standard of living.
