Sokoto earmarks N164m for students' foreign sponsorship

16 September 2013, 16:35

Sokoto - Sokoto State Government on Monday said that it earmarked about N164 million for the sponsorship of 64 youths in the state for undergraduate and post-graduate studies abroad.

This is contained in a statement by the Information Officer of the state's Scholarship Board, Isa Shuni, in Sokoto.

The statement said that about N100 million would be used for the payment of tuition fees, air fares and upkeep allowances for 32 post-graduate students in various universities in the United Kingdom.

"These institutions include Universities of Sussex, East London and London Metropolitan.

"These students transferred their studies to the Universities of Dundee, Brunel, Durham and BedFordshire.

"They were accepted for Masters of Science studies in pharmacy and public health in the health sector," the statement explained.

It added that the remaining N64 million was being used to sponsor another set of 32 students for undergraduate and post graduate studies in medical and para-medical courses in other countries.

The statement said the Chairman of the board, Jelani Kalgo, appealed to the students to reciprocate the gesture by being committed to their studies.

Kalgo urged them to shun acts capable of truncating their studies.
