Soldier under probe for Maiduguri student murder

10 November 2014, 08:59Augustine Osayande

Abuja - The father of Mohammed Sulum, the late undergraduate student of the University of Maiduguri, has appealed for thorough investigations into the death.

A soldier allegedly killed Sulum and stole his car.

Alhaji Konto Sulum alleged that his son was killed last Wednesday after giving the killer soldier a lift in his car.

Addressing journalist in Maiduguri, the father of the decease student said the incident occurred on Wednesday evening.

He alleged that the soldier asked his son to give him a lift to his duty post on time, but before they could get to the designated post the soldier shot the student and ran away with his car.

“The soldier, who thought he (student) was dead, dragged his corpse out of the car and zoomed off with his car. My son crawled down by the roadside near Asita Hotel in Bolori where a Good Samaritan called the attention of Civilian JTF and they tried to rush him to the Hospital but he gave up the ghost before reaching the hospital,” he decried.

He said before the son died he informed the Civilian JTF that a soldier who had run away with his car shot him.

“The next day his friend saw the soldier and his friend at Oando filing station Baga Road with the car, and they alerted Civilian JTF and they arrested them.”

According to him, his 22-year-old son had just graduated from the Physics Department of the University of Maiduguri, waiting for his call-up letter from NYSC.

Confirming the incident, a source from the army who does not want his name in print, said both the culprit and friend had been arrested and will soon be prosecuted.

“As I am speaking to you, the said soldier and his friend are already in chains in the military detention and will soon be prosecuted,” he said.
