Abuja - Oyo State Sports Commissioner Adedapo Lam-Adesina, is recovering in hospital after an attack by suspected Sunshine Stars fans during a league match.
The fans ran on a rampage, also attacking the match officials and 3SC officials, forcing the abandonment of the match at Akure Township Stadium.
Lam-Adesina was left in a coma.
"Commissioner for sports, Adedapo Lam-Adesina was on his way to dressing room to address the players when he was attacked by the Sunshine fans, who beat him to coma, as we speak he is in an hospital," 3SC media officer, Jubril Arowolo, narrated the events that led to the abandonment.
"Sunshine started the harassment of referee and his assistants from the early stage of the game, it all started when one Balogun (Sunshine team manager) and Mike Idoko complained that our goal was an off side.
"The first half ended 2-1, and on our way to the dressing room, they were throwing stones and others things at us, they were harassing the referee that none of us will leave the stadium alive if there is a draw in the game," Arowolo said.
He said the team's photographer was covering the events, which annoyed the Sunshine fans.
They allegedly confiscated it.
Stars media officer John Abalaka denied the accusations.
"There was no attack on Oyo state commissioner of sports, Dapo Lam-Adesina, they claimed fans attacked him on his way to the dressing room and the match commissioner went to meet him in their dressing room after the normal rest time at interval to come out for the second half but they insisted on not coming out after the commissioner asked them to doso, saying that security is not guaranteed," he said.
