Katsina - The Katsina State House of Assembly has called on the government to release funds to restore electricity in Faskari Local Government Area.
The area was recently cast into darkness after rainstorms destroyed electricity poles.
The Member representing the area, Engr Shehu Tafoki, said seven electoral wards in Faskari were affected by the storms and subsequent power failure.
About 80 electric poles and 60 houses were destroyed during wind storm and heavy downpour that occurred in some villages of the affected council area.
“Economic activities were on the standstill in the affected villages since the electricity they often consumed is no longer forthcoming,” said Tafoki.
The lawmakers, after deliberating on the motion, called on the state government to release money to the council area for immediate replacement of the poles.
The assembly members also directed its Environment and Emergency Relief Committee to visit areas affected by rainstorms to assess the situation.
