Student charged with assaulting co-tenant

26 March 2013, 07:11

Lagos - A 24-year-old student, Aderemi Williams, who allegedly assaulted his co-tenant by kicking her in the stomach, was on Monday charged before an Ojokoro Senior Magistrates' Court, Lagos.

Williams, who resides at No. 9, Olubode Crescent, Gowon Estate, Egbeda, is facing a two-count charge of assault and misconduct.

The prosecutor, Insp. Lugard Ahonle, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 7 in the estate at 1.00 p.m.

"Aderemi's mother, Mrs Grace Williams, was accused by one Mrs Ifeoma Njoku of removing her clothes from where she spread them and this led to an argument.

"Aderemi came out of his room and joined his mother to rain abuses on Njoku and kicked the woman, who had just been delivered of a baby in the stomach," he told the court.

Ahonle said that the offences contravened Sections 171 and 308 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty of the offences.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case to April 4 for mention.
