Abuja - The Abia state governor, Theodore Orji, sent his condolences to the families and colleagues of students who perished in a road crash on Thursday.
Five executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) died along the Umuahia-Uyo Road in Ikwuano Abia State when a lorry collided with a bus they were travelling in from Abuja to Uyo.
Four others sustained different degrees of injuries and were taken to the Umuahia Federal Medical Center where they were receiving treatment.
The Governor visited the centre and sympathized with victims of the accident.
"It is disheartening that the incident affected the country’s future leaders whose parents would have reaped from the resources they invested in their upbringing," said Orji.
He urged drivers to be more careful and patient on the road as well as observe traffic rules.
