Suspected cultist apprehended at Ibadan polytechnic

13 May 2014, 21:03

Ibadan - The authorities of  The Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Monday said a 22-year-old suspected to be a cultist was apprehended at the main gate of the institution.

A statement issued by the institution’s Registrar, Hezeikiah Fehintola, said the suspect was believed to have visited the polytechnic with the intention of committing a crime.

It said the suspect,  who claimed to be an indigene of Delta, had on him at the time of apprehension a bag containing a double barreled shot gun, live cartridges and one axe.

The suspect, according to the statement, also claimed to be a student of one of the higher institutions in Ibadan and that he was at the polytechnic to see a friend.

The suspect had been handed over to the police for further investigation, the statement said.

It urged the staff, students and the entire polytechnic community to be security conscious while parents and guardians were also advised to monitor the activities of their wards.

The statement reiterated the polytechnic’s zero tolerance for cultism, violence and other acts of indiscipline.
