Taraba - Taraba Government owes its retired civil servants about N2 billion as outstanding gratuities, according to the state’s Head of Service, Mr Augustine Bazing. Bazing made this known to newsmen in Jalingo on Thursday.
He said the state's Planning Commission only allocated N500 million to the state’s Pension Board in the 2013 budget, which he said, was inadequate.
The head of service said he had complained to the state’s House of Assembly Committee on Cabinet Affairs on the matter so that the amount would be increased during appropriation.
He noted that failure to provide more funds to the pension board meant that several retirees would remain unpaid. He expressed optimism that the committee would convince the House Committee on Finance and Ethics to allocate additional funds to the board.
