Taraba - The Taraba Government has approved the appointment of Dr Shehu Baju as the First Class Chief of Mambilla, 10 years after the death of the substantive ruler.Baju, succeeds the late chief, Alhaji Muhammadu Mansur who died in 2002. A statement issued by the Government House Chief Press Secretary, Hassan Mijinyawa on Thursday in Jalingo stated that the acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar gave approval for the appointment.It stated that the appointment followed a reconciliation initiated by Gov. Danbaba Suntai between the ruling houses of Mansur and that of Baju, where an agreement was reached to rotate the chieftaincy stool between them.It stated that the new Chief, who was born in 1959, was until his appointment, the Director of Veterinary Services in the State Ministry for Agriculture, Jalingo. According to the statement, arrangements for the installation is to be announced on a later date.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tussle for the Mambilla stool had lingered in the past 10 years due to disagreement over who should take over as the Chief. NAN recalls that the Mambilla Chiefdom has been without a ruler since 2002 when the late Mansur died after reigning for 42 years. NAN
