Taskforce lifts Potiskum curfew

08 August 2013, 09:00Emeka Adebanji

Abuja - The Joint Task Force in Yobe State has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on Potiskum town earlier this week.

The move will enable residents of the town to go outdoors from 6 am until 10 pm.

JTF spokesperson, Lazarus Eli, said the organisation was confident of the security situation in the town.

“Upon the completion of special operations in Potiskum town, the Joint Task Force (JTF) relaxes the 24- hour curfew imposed on the town recently with immediate effect," he said.

The 24-hour curfew was earlier imposed on Potiskum to allow members of the JTF to corner off part of the town and began house-to-house search for insurgents said to be planning to unleash terror on residents during the Eid-el-Fitr festival.

The festival celebrates the break from the month-long Ramadan fasting holiday.

Intelligence reports claimed suspected insurgents had sneaked into the city with explosives they allegedly stole from a Chinese construction firm during a night raid.

It was reported the insurgents, suspected to be Boko Haram members sneaked in with Improvised Explosive Divices (IEDs) to create panic in the town during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
