Abuja - A teenage girl in Maiduguri in Borno State has set an extraordinary example of community service in response to the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.
Falmata Dulumi, 19, pledged her time to volunteer as a teacher at a school for orphans and physically challenged children in Maiduguri, Leadership reports.
Dulumi said she has a special for underprivileged children and since she could not donate money to assist them, she decided to take an active approach.
The director of the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation School, Barrister Usman Zannah, said Dulumi barely gave him time to consider her proposal as she was adamant to lend a hand.
It is quite unusual for a teenager to be so driven to contribute to the community, especially in this part of the country, Zannah said. Dulumi’s selflessness is truly inspiring, the barrister added.
