Trio confesses to killing village leader

13 August 2013, 16:40

Abuja - Taraba State police have arrested three men, including a teenager, in connection with the recent murder of a village head at Kole in the Wukari Local Government Council.

Parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Jalingo, the State Commissioner of Police, Jubril Adeniji, identified the suspects as Hassan Musa (48) Buba Saleh (28) and Dotti Huseni (19).

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to committing the crime and alleged they were often hired as mercenaries by groups in the neighbouring Plateau state to perpetrate violence among ethnic groups.

However, Huseini and Buba alleged Musa hired them to kill the village head. They alleged Musa promised them 15 cows each.

They reported bad blood between the head and Musa after the village leader fined Hasan following an altercation with another villager.

The village leader was allegedly shot three times in the head.

Adeniji said investigations into the incident were ongoing.

“The suspects would appear in court as soon as we have gotten all the necessary information we need from them,” he said.
