Tussle costs village heads ‘their’ title

05 July 2013, 09:04

Abeokuta – Two Village Heads in Adeagba, Ewekoro Local Government, had such an intense rivalry over the same title that it cost both of them the desired title.

The Ogun State Government suspended Femi Olatidoye and Ganiu Ogunlalu for making separate claims to the title of Baale of Adeagba.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Muyiwa Oladipo, announced the suspension at a peace meeting in Abeokuta which the duo also attended.

Oladipo told them that the suspension became necessary to stop the lingering crisis which the rivalry had continued to generate in the community.

"Femi Olatidoye and Ganiu Ogunlalu are hereby ordered to stop parading themselves as the Baale of Adagba community until further notice.

"The government has taken this decision in order to forestall the breakdown of law and order in the community.

"The rivalry has already generated a lot of communal upheaval and misgivings from both families and this has to be stopped before it gets out of control.’

Oladipo directed the Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, to constitute a committee to oversee the running of the community while the issue was being resolved.
