Two dead, one arrested in supermarket robbery

Abuja - One suspect involved in an armed robbery at a supermarket has died following a gun duel with police, PUNCH reports.

The incident, which took place in the Ikot Effa area of Calabar, Cross River State, also led to the arrest of two other suspects, one of which died later. Four other suspects are reported to have escaped.

Upon being apprehended, a locally-made pistol, 42 rounds of ammunition, machetes, mobile phones, electronics and other valuables were recovered from the suspects.

According to supermarket owner Akpan Ekerette, the incident marks the second time the armed criminals have visited the shop in 2015.

Hogan Bassey, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and commended members of the public for playing a significant role in the success of the operation.
