Two killed as police foil robbery attempt

15 August 2012, 07:32

Lagos - Two men were killed as the Police in Lagos on Tuesday foiled a robbery attempt on an old generation bank in Apapa area of the state, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

A reliable source at Apapa police station told NAN that the suspected robbers attacked the bank situated on Wharf Road, but that the police, acting on a tip-off,  responded quickly.

"When the robbers saw the policemen, they opened fire on them and the police returned fire. One of the suspects and a policeman were killed on the spot, while two suspected armed robbers were arrested and the others escaped.

"One other policeman was seriously injured and currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed private hospital," the source told NAN.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Ms Ngozi Braide, said she was yet to receive information on the incident as at the time of writing this report.
