UK Minister for Africa outrage at Damasak abductions

25 March 2015, 21:51

Lagos - United Kingdom Minister for Africa, James Duddridge, expressed dismay at reports of further abductions in Nigeria.

This follows reports that up to 500 young women and children had been abducted from the town of Damask in northern parts of the country.

I condemn Boko Haram¹s abhorrent practice of abduction in the strongest terms and call for all those taken to be released immediately," Duddridge said.

He said the UK stood with Nigeria and its people at this difficult time and would continue to support the region in countering the threat posed by Boko Haram.

Boko Haram's reign of terror has seen sect members abduct scores of Nigerians most infamously last April when more than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped in Chibok, Borno State.
