Lagos - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully helped an American woman recover $2 000 she had lost to a suspected Nigerian fraudster in a romance scam.
Benjamin Akugbe, the alleged fraudster had defrauded Margaret Sanders based in Sherman, Texas.
Sanders, through a petition dated July 9, 2013 alleged that she entered into a relationship on Facebook, with someone who claimed to be Benny Brown from Warri, Delta State, with both agreeing to get married.

According to her, the suspect in the course of the affair, requested for the sum of $2 000 to enable him join her in United States of America.
The money was reportedly wired to him through Western Union, into an account with the name, Gladdys Ikpoba domiciled with a new generation bank.
According to EFCC, after an endless wait for the fiance, Sanders realised she had been duped but her efforts to recover the money were unsuccessful until she petitioned the EFCC.
"The Commission through discrete investigation recovered and returned the money to the victim."
