Udom appeals for calm after DSS raid

09 September 2015, 14:04

Uyo - Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has urged people in the state to remain calm amid the perceived assault by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) during the recent invasion of Government House.

He spoke on arrival from from Abuja at the Ibom International Airport where he assured the matter was before the office of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He maintained that Buhari had assured him he would look into the matter.

"President Buhari is on top of the situation. He is the President of Nigeria and not the President of a particular party. We just have to be calm and see how he will go about the matter,” said Emmanuel.

Operatives of the DSS last Thursday invaded the Akwa Ibom State Government lodge, according to critics, without following the due process.

It is reported during the raid, the operatives broke into the rooms and guest houses in the Government House, the official residence of Emmanuel.

This action has drawn the anger of Akwa Ibom people and groups who have condemned the act.

The motive of the raid was not clear.
