Univeristy of Agric, Makurdi closed down

19 September 2012, 09:19

Makurdi - The Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, was on Tuesday closed down indefinitely, following students' protest over alleged power outage for three days during their second semester examination.

A cross section of the students alleged that water supply to the hostels was inadequate.

When contacted, Joseph Orsar, Dean, Students' Affairs of the institution, stressed the need for the students to use dialogue in pressing home their demands.

Orsar said the university was doing its best to supply water and electricity to the students at all times, adding that when the institution's waterworks was damaged by flood, a temporary arrangement was made to address the problem.

He expressed regrets that the closure of the school coincided with the students' examination period.

Orsar said the closure was the best decision, adding that more damage would have been done if not for the intervention of security agencies.
