Uproar as Buhari appoints SGF, Chief of Staff

Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief of Staff and four others was greeted by angry reactions from Nigerians, Premium Times reports.

President Buhari, yesterday appointed, his long time political associate, Engr. David Lawal as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and former banker, Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff.

The appointments went against the grain of political permutations which had seen some key political figures being mentioned as likely appointees to the coveted offices.

He appointed Hameed Ali, a retired colonel, as the Comptroller-General of Nigerian Customs Service, curiously finding no career customs official suitable for the post.

He also named Kure Martin Abeshi as the Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service.

Ali and Abeshi are from Bauchi and Nasarawa states respectively.

The appointments have sparked anger across the land, with some critics now referring to Buhari as Nigeria’s most provincial leader ever.
